CHARAKA LECTURE SERIES

Invited talk by Prof. Ganesh Nagaraju, Ph.D., FNASc, FNA, FASc, Professor and JC Bose National Fellow, Indian Institute of Science

January 21, 2025         Time: 2.00 to 3.00 pm           Venue: BGS Auditorium

BGS-Global Institute of Medical Sciences hosted an invited talk on DNA Damage Response, Genetic Diseases and Cancer

Dr. Ganesh Nagaraju has significantly advanced the field of molecular medicine through his extensive research in the area of “Genome maintenance and Cancer Biology” working at Harvard Medical School, USA and Indian Institute of Science Laboratories. He is an elected fellow of all three national academies of India and has received numerous honors and awards including, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for his exceptional contributions to biomedical research.

Conceptual:

The series began with introductory note by the Dean/ Principal regarding the significance of the genome. Biomedicine, particularly in the realm of cancer research, is advancing towards a deeper understanding of the molecular underpinnings of diseases focusing on DNA Damage Response and Genome Stability. This initiative aims to foster research concepts among students and faculty, enhancing their comprehension of molecular medicine as it pertains to various diseases, especially cancer-linked genetic abnormalities stemming from intrinsic and extrinsic factors, as well as comorbidities. His topic of presentation provided a fundamental understanding of how genetic mutations affect genome stability and cause cancer, which connects scientists and medical practitioners for impactful translational research. By launching this lecture series, BGS-GIMS is committed to the vision of integrating research on human diseases to enhance clinical outcomes. The lecture was attended by all the teaching faculty, PG and UG students of BGS-GIMS.
