Department of Radio-Diagnosis

WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF RADIO-DIAGNOSIS:

The RADIO-DIAGNOSIS, today is one of the top speciality among all the medical disciplines. The discipline evolved with invention of X rays by well known German Physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen way back in 1885. He is called as “Father of Radiology “for his contribution: Discovery of X rays. Almost a century afterwards, it was only conventional Radiology that was providing Diagnostic services to the Medical field.  X rays were immediately utilised for Medical Radiography soon after their discovery. But the revolutionary imaging techniques like Ultrasonography (USG), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are included around 1980 & 1990’s have totally revolutionised the Medical diagnostic field. Today all the other medical specialities are utilising the diagnostic services for treating sickness of the mankind. The newer imaging modalities have lessened the burden of diagnosis by clinical skills for the treating doctor to a greater extent. Today with these imaging techniques we are providing accurate and reliable diagnosis to the clinicians and we have made their job easy. Lot of research and developments are on the way thus adding newer imaging techniques and expanding the horizon of our speciality.

The Department of Radio-Diagnosis & Imaging of our Institution, The Global Institute of Medical Sciences, was started in the year 2013 under the leadership of Sri Sri Sri Prakashnath Swamiji and our beloved principal Dr M. C. Mohan and is equipped with state of art diagnostic equipments. At present we have x ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI facilities and we are doing 80-100 X rays, 50-70 Ultrasound examinations, 15-20 CT studies, and 5-10 MRI scans per day. In addition, we are doing special x rays like barium studies, contrast studies, and interventional procedures also. Though Radiography & Ultrasonography was started long back, CT & MRI were installed recently.

We have started post graduate programme in Radio-diagnosis (MD) from the 2020 academic year. BSc in Medical imaging techniques (BMLT) was started from 2019 academic year. Today the department is fully equipped with latest imaging tools and dedicated teaching faculty. The department is providing training facilities to UG & PG medical students, Medical technology students and nursing students.

The department is located in the lower ground floor of the hospital building and is very spacious and easily accessible. Well planned areas for the imaging sections& reporting areas, large central patients waiting hall, easy entry and exit, a spacious seminar hall for teaching purposes, individual rooms for faculty, a museum, a small library for reference purposes are all the highlights of the department.
