CME  on  “ Breast Imaging Demystified” Organised by by the Department of Radio- Diognosis

The CME  “ Breast Imaging Demystified” conducted by the Department of Radiology, BGS GIMS on 4th October 2024 , focused on the importance of breast imaging, and brought together experts in radiology and surgery to discuss critical topics in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and other breast-related conditions. The conference covered various imaging modalities, including mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and emerging technologies.

Key Topics discussed were as follows:

1. Mammography – Overview of new technologies, such as digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) as well as the role of mammography in screening for different age groups and the challenges and strategies for reducing false positives and negatives.

2. Ultrasound – Application of ultrasound in assessing dense breasts and differentiating between benign and malignant lesions , integration of elastography in characterizing breast lesions and Case studies showcasing the role of ultrasound in guiding biopsies and monitoring treatment.

3. Breast MRI: Utilization of MRI for high-risk patients, including BRCA mutation carriers and latest innovations in contrast agents with imaging protocols. Also the role of MRI in pre-surgical planning, assessing response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and detecting recurrence was discussed.

The sessions were followed by an interactive quiz session where Participants actively engaged in diagnosis of a series of complex breast imaging cases and management strategies.

Overall, the CME was informative and speakers effectively educated the delegates on the importance and relevance of breast imaging.
