LEPROSY AWARENESS CAMP – 2024

World Leprosy Day is observed every year on the last Sunday of January. In India, it is observed on 30th January every year, coinciding with the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to increase the publicawarenessofleprosyor Hansen’s Disease.  

A Leprosy Awareness Camp was organized by the Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy headed by Professor & Head of Department, Dr. Sanjana A S at BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences (BGS GIMS), Kengeri, Bengaluru on 2nd of February 2024, Friday between 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM.

We, the Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, BGS GIMS take immense pleasure in hosting this awareness programme.

The occasion was graced by our eminent Dean cum Principal, Dr. M E Mohan, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Srikanth Kulkarni, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nischal, Administrative Officer, Dr. Omprakash& Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Dr. Jayashree.

The event started with invoking the blessings of the Almighty and lighting of lamp by the dignitaries. Following that, felicitation of the dignitaries was done by Dr. Sanjana A S, Head of Department and Dr. Rajendra Okade, Senior Professor of the Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy.

An Inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Sanjana A S, Professor & Head of the Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy emphasizing the need for the awareness on Leprosy.

Following this,Dr. M E Mohan, Dean cum Principal gave a talk on Leprosy. He addressed the audience with his enthusiastic speech and highlighted the importance of this awareness programme. After the speech we distributed pamphlets on Leprosy awareness to the OPD patients.

Next in line, we had invited a guest speaker Dr. Veena, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, who enlightened us about the importance of National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).

The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Dheemant M, Senior Resident, Department ofDermatology, Venereology & Leprosy followed by high tea and snacks.
