World AMR Awareness Week from 18th to 24th November 2024
The World AMR Awareness week was conducted jointly by the Department of General Medicine and Department of Microbiology, BGS GIMS on 29-11-2024.
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a critical public health problem, which can shake the foundation of modern health-care. Extensive use of antimicrobials is an important factor leading to the development of resistance, which is a rising global threat across the globe. Hospital staff and health care professionals should enhance initiatives to promote antibiotic stewardship interventions and infection prevention and control measures. In this context, various activities were conducted as a part of World AMR Awareness Week – 2024 in our hospital.
The programme was conducted by Department of General Medicine and Department of Microbiology presided by Dr. M.E. Mohan, Dean cum Principal, Dr. Srikanth Kulkarni, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mithun Somaiah, HOD of General Medicine, Dr. Ragini Ananth Kashid, HOD of Microbiology, followed by HODs, faculties of various departments, Post Graduate students and Interns.
The following activities were conducted:
Activity 1: Poster presentation competition to create awareness on AMR
Poster presentation competition was organized for PG students and Interns, followed by Prize distribution for the winners. The winners of the above competition are as follows:

2nd Prize – Dr Shruthi S, Dr Sudeep K Katenahalli

Activity 2: Presentation of Hospital antibiogram
The hospital antibiogram was presented in the presence of Dr. M.E. Mohan, Dean cum Principal, Dr. Srikanth Kulkarni, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mithun Somaiah, HOD of General Medicine, Dr. Ragini Ananth Kashid, HOD of Microbiology, HODs and faculties of various departments. There was a healthy interaction regarding resistance patterns of the clinical isolates and MDR pathogens. The HICC and AMR teams reiterated the importance of hospital infection control measures with emphasis to curb antimicrobial resistance. The plan for AMR activities for the year 2025 – 26 were also discussed.
