NALS & PALS WORKSHOP
On August 01/08/2024 & 02/08/2024 NALS & PALS conducted by the department of Paediatrics during COGNITAIR 3.0 at BGS GIMS for the undergraduates of BGS and also various medical colleges.
The workshops were aimed at teaching the Principles of Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) and c Paediatric Life Support (BLS) for the students. The workshop taught them how to recognize and manage sick newborns/sick children, respiratory distress/failure, shock, cardiac arrest and arrhythmias. The students were divided into small groups and were circulated among different stations.
In NRP, they were trained the knowledge and skills to resuscitate a Neonate by providing warmer care, oxygen, suctioning airways, chest compressions, intubations, securing i.v lines.
In BLS, essential component of high quality CPR consisting of effective chest compressions and positive pressure ventilation with AMBU was simulated on mannequins. Recognition of cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, operation of manual defibrillator was demonstrated for the students followed by Hands-on session by the students on each station was carried out.
This programme offered a significant value as it empowered them with knowledge and skills to take immediate and effective action against sick child and improve their chances of survival of life threatening situation and improve their quality of life.
