COGNITAIRE 4th Edition, conducted on 25th and 26th June 2025.

BGS GLOBAL INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES is proud to present COGNITAIRE 4th EDITION, an undergraduate medical conference, designed to delve into the depths of the understanding of Medical Science with workshops, academic events and scientific events.

Led by the BGS GIMS’ team of experts and experienced educators in the field of Medicine, it was a blend of insightful lectures, hands-on activities, and engaging discussions, providing the participants with an  opportunity to deepen their knowledge, hone their skills, and foster connections with fellow enthusiasts.

From exploring the nuances of experience to deciphering the complexities of problem solving, COGNITAIRE 4TH EDITION offered a comprehensive exploration of the cognitive process. The programmes spanned over two days on 25th and 26th of June 2025.The events were conducted in theBGS Advanced Skills Lab and in the Mini Auditorium and BGS Auditorium. The patrons of COGNITAIRE 4th EDITION are Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Maha Swamiji, President of Sri Adichunchunagiri Shikshana Trust and Sri Sri Dr. Prakashnatha Swamiji, Managing Director, BGS and SJB Group of Institutions and Hospitals. The COGNITAIRE QUIZ, which is a prestigious intercollegiate quiz competition lit up the academic calendar on 25th of June, with participation from 30 plus teams from across the state. The event kicked off with a screening round, consisting of mind bending, clinically challenging questions from the Pre and Para clinical subjects. The 8 top teams progressed to reach the semi finals, moving ahead to the next stage of the competition.

The semifinals challenged the teams through 4 uniquely crafted rounds:

  • CONNECT – Teams cracked seemingly unrelated clues to arrive at a common link
  • AUCTION IT!! – a strategic bidding round where teams ‘bought’ questions based on their confidence
  • HEADS UP – A fast paced clue giving round inspired by the classic game of charades with a medical twist
  • JACK OF ALL TRADES – A multidisciplinary round covering medicine across various domains like music, art, theatre, history, mythology etc

The top 4 teams with the highest cumulative scores from these rounds advanced to the grand finale of THE COGNITAIRE QUIZ!!!

The rounds in Finals of the Quiz are as follows :

  • BUZZER – A test of speed and accuracy under pressure
  • RAPID FIRE – 60 seconds. 10 questions. Pure adrenaline
  • WAGER MORE – Teams risked their points betting on their confidence
  • ENIGMA – A final twist – real life clinical simulation with cryptic clues across 3 stations – history, examination and investigation. Followed by deduction and a mysterious trail to the answer.

After an intellectually stimulating and thrilling finish, the winners were crowned – Rachana S & Nithin D from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute. Cash prizes were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK (The Case presentation)

Participants were invited to present interesting or challenging case encountered during their clinical postings. Each presentation was evaluated on clarity, depth of understanding, diagnostic approach and evidence-based management. With a wide variety of specialties presented – from Internal medicine, Surgery to ENT, Ophthalmology – the event witnessed a remarkable blend of academic diversity and clinical insight. Around 35 plus cases were submitted from 10 plus colleges across the state. Cash prizes were given to the winners mentioned below.

The event concluded with resounding applause for the winners:

  • 1st in Medicine :  Kshiti TS and Rakshitha G R  from SABVMCRI
  • 1st in Surgery : Preetha and Varun from Vydehi institute of medical sciences
  • 1st in Paediatrics : Ritika Gilani and Ragini Sharma from KIMS, Bangalore
  • 1st in others(OBG, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology) : Chirag R in Ophthalmology from JSS, Mysore

The Organising Team of COGNITAIRE 4th EDITION received excellent feedback from all the delegates. The feedback echoed that it was a well organised, innovative, skill enhancing and relevant academic programme and that the delegates look forward to the next edition of COGNITAIRE at BGS GIMS.
