CME titled  ” BRIDGING THE GAP – ROLE OF PEDIATRICIAN IN HEMAT-ONCOLOGY on 6th August 2025 conducted by Department of Paediatrics

Department of Paediatrics, BGS GIMS, conducted a CME on BRIDGING THE GAP – ROLE OF PEDIATRICIAN IN HEMAT-ONCOLOGY on 6th August 2025 under the guidance and able support of Dr Mohan M E, Dean cum Principal, BGS GIMS. The CME was organized by our dynamic Professor and Head of Department of Pediatrics, Dr Purnima Samayam and supported and participated enthusiastically by all the teaching staff, post graduates and interns of the department.

The CME started on an auspicious note with 9th term students singing the invocation song, followed by ceremonial lamp lighting by the dignitaries to herald the beginning of the event . Dignitaries and delegates were welcomed by Dr Purnima Samayam, HOD Peadiatrics followed by inaugural address by dean cum principal, Dr M.E. Mohan and vote of thanks by Dr Vinod M, professor, department of Peadiatrics.

We had five academically enriching sessions in the forenoon. Renowned Pediatric  hematoocologist Dr Anand Prakash, HOD pediatric hematology oncology and BMT began the session with “Approach to pediatric hematooncology cases-non emergency “. Dr Intezar Mehdi, Director and head, Pediatric Hemato oncology and BMT, HCG cancer centre, spoke on role of pediatrician in hemat-oncological emergencies. Diagnostics in pediatric Hemato oncology was discusses in detail by Dr Sandhya V , senior consultant pathologist, Gleneagles BGS hospitals. Dr Prerana Nesargi, consultant pediatric Hemato oncology, Gleneagles BGS hospital had an interactive session on curious cases in her practice. Dr Vinay Munikoty Venkatesh, consultant pediatric hematology oncology, Manipal hospital spoke about Bone marrow transplant, cellular therapies and newer advances in the field.All the sessions were interactive and informative for both undergraduates and postgraduates. It dealt from basics to advances in BMT, recognition and management of emergency and non emergency cases.

Post lunch we had postgraduate quiz programme which was enthusiastically participated by 6 teams of pediatric postgraduates from various medical colleges of Bangalore. Quiz master Major Dr Ashish Mallige , Assistant professor , dept of Peadiatrics , BGS GIMS had organised a 7 round challenging session covering most topics from pediatric Hemato oncology and BMT.
CME was ended with felicitation of winners with certificates and trophies followed up by the feedback from audience.
