Celebration of WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK, August 2021

Department of Pediatrics, BGS GIMS, Bangalore.

The first week of August has been religiously celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week annually by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). This campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action with this year’s theme of Protect Breastfeeding – A Shared Responsibility, was celebrated with much pomp and show by the Department of Pediatrics, under the aegis of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP).

The Reception-Area of the hospital was decorated with a sea of hand-made posters that were submitted but the undergraduate students and post graduates of pediatrics. These posters were a marvellous display of creativity and infographics that sensitised the common folk towards the benefits of breastfeeding.

The chief guests of the occasion, our beloved Dean and Principal, Dr. M.E.Mohan and our respected Medical Superintendent, Dr. Srikant Kulkarni., were very affectionately welcomed by the Head Of Department Dr. A.C.Ramesh Sir and team, following which the event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lamp-lighting and a presidential address by Dr.M.E.Mohan.

A bouquet of facts, beautifully woven together as short stories was presented by the students of 3rd year MBBS as a small skit with great fervour. This was received with much applause by the common folk who were greatly benefited with the myth-busting. Characteristically, the Department of Pediatrics called it a day by distributing sweets and interacting with the audience.
