RT PCR – Molecular Microbiology Laboratory
With the blessings of Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Maha Swamiji and Sri Sri Dr. Prakashnath Swamiji, under the leadership of Dr. M E Mohan, Principal, BGSGIMS, an In-house RT PCR laboratory was set up by the Department of Microbiology during the present pandemic. The state of the art RT PCR laboratory achieved NABL Accreditation on 05/08/2020 in the first attempt and was inaugurated on 14/08/2020. Each section of the PCR lab is spacious and air conditioned . It includes 3 RT PCR machines ,3 RNA automated extractors, 3 Biosafety cabinets ( BSC – class IIA), 1 Laminar air flow cabinet (LAF), UV PCR workstation and Cold storage units.This laboratory has work spaces as per Indian Council of Medical Research,
Department of Health Research:
- Separate sample receiving area
- Hand washing – PPE Donning/Doffing zones
- Designated area for Biosafety cabinet & Sample handling
- Designated Pre PCR, PCR and Post PCR room
- Separate Autoclave facility and Space for handling Bio Medical Waste
This RT PCR Facility is equipped to carry out diagnostic tests like Quantitative HCV PCR and COVID 19 RT PCR testing. Till date four and a half lakh samples for Covid 19 by RT PCR have been tested.The Department of Microbiology stands together, striving hard in the present pandemic.
