WORLD VITILIGO DAY
Vitiligo is more than just a skin condition; it’s a journey of self-acceptance and resilience. Vitiligo occurs due to loss of pigment producing cells of the body. The Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, BGS GIMS celebrated
“WORLD VITILIGO DAY” on June 25th, 2024. On this day we created awareness regarding misconception about vitiligo among general public.
This year, the function began with a welcome song and lamp lighting ceremony. Welcome speech was addressed by Dr. Sanjana A.S, Professor& HOD, Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy followed by vitiligo awareness talk in Kannada by our Dean cum Principal Dr. M.E Mohan to the gathering in the hospital reception.
Various awareness activities were conducted which included poster making competition for the undergraduate students which was judged by Dr. Rajendra Okade, Professor, Department of Dermatology and prizes were distributed to the winners of the competition. All the participants were given consolation prizes for their active participation.
The next awareness activity was pamphlets distribution by our postgraduate students to the general population regarding vitiligo with this year theme as “Treating skin, Healingminds” and “All that is white is not Vitiligo”. Next was a role play by the undergraduate students with three scenes enacted by Medserve collective. The three scenes explained the difficulties of vitiligo patients surviving among their colleagues, marriage proposal and career growth and it was truly an eye-opener.
The function ended with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dheemant.M, Senior Resident, Department of Dermatology. Many people were benefited with this awareness program. Let’s pledge to come together, dispel the myths and encourage affected individuals for taking proper treatment or join self-help groups for VITILIGO!!!
